The
Altamont has an exciting history to build upon. Of particular note,
aviator Charles Lindbergh stayed at the hotel in 1929, after his plane
was forced down nearby. Once listed as one of the top ten hotels in the
country, presidential candidate John F. Kennedy spent an evening here
as well.
| This view, taken from southwest of the Altamont
building, demonstrates
the sheer size of this 9 story structure. Located at the cities'
primary
business intersection (junction of State Routes 93 and 309)
the Altamont Hotel building commands attention! |
 |
| The beautiful arched window facades of the second floor
ballroom, are
visible in this view from State Route 309, just South of the Altamont. |
 |
The property includes this adjoining lot, with parking
for over 60
cars.
Access to the lot is available either directly from Broad St. (State
Route 93), via the driveway along side the building, or from Spruce St.
A brand new off street parking garage is being constructed directly
across the street, providing secure, covered parking for patrons. |
 |
| Partial view of the immense main ballroom, as set up
for weddings,
banquets, etc. Also visible, are several of the ornate chandeliers that
adorn this part of the building. |
 |
| In this view of the Ballroom Mezanine, sunlight
drenches the room
through the huge arched window walls. |
 |
| A peak through this bedroom door provides a glimpse of
the typical
construction of the various rooms on the 4th and 5th floors, which had
been designed for elderly care. Note the extra wide doorways, and
handi-capped access in the bathroom. |
 |
| Part of a common area, previously used as a dining
area, is visible
here. These common areas are similar on both the 4th and 5th floors. |
 |
| Typical office space as constructed on the 3rd floor. |
 |
| Floors 6 through 9, are gutted and ready for renovation
to apartments,
office suites, or just about anything else. Some plumbing and
electrical is roughed in already. 8th or 9th floor would make a
fantastic New York style nightclub, with great views overlooking the
city! |
 |
| Westerly view across State Route 309, features this
beautiful stone
church, city hall and Victorian architecture along Church Street. Other
views include the CAN-DO office building, as well as the historic
Markle building. |
